James Barton Design was started in 1998. Not entirely from a standing start as I had been making similar products for quite some years. However this was a conscious decision to set up an operation that would have at it's heart the absolute aim of making really high quality products. Operating from a converted stable  (looking at the deeds of our house at one time, when it was a coaching inn,  there were about 40 stables that occupied 3 sides of a courtyard  (now the garden). The workshop is the only one left standing. By working this way we have really tight control of our overheads  and consequently  we can pitch our prices at very competitive levels. The result is we can produce outstanding work at very affordable prices. We all benefit from that.

Boxing Hares (foundry cast bronze)

Most of the items you see on this website are made in bronze resin (sometimes called cold cast bronze). This results in a statuette that looks like a traditional foundry cast bronze but costing a fraction of the price. We also produce items in traditional bronze, silver plated bronze and silver On this page you can see items in various finishes. The boxing hares are made in traditional foundry cast bronze which results in a beautiful and robust figurine that will survive the tests of time and could well become a prized heirloom. The Sphinx is made from bronze resin and, as previously intimated, is the most affordable finish. The eagle and tower is silver plated bronze which is a really good choice if you want a silver looking item but are not fussed about the  intrinsic cachet of real silver. Bronze presents fewer problems in getting a good surface finish.
